Many of you know that I took a full-time position at a new Catholic high school in the area.  I believe very strongly in the success of the school and everything it stands for.  I am the school’s Office Manager and I LOVE going to work every day!  I am still making cakes, but have significantly scaled back the number of cakes I do in a weekend, so get your requests to me as soon as you have dates!  That said, I have the following announcement to make.

I want to start off by saying a HUGE THANK YOU to those that have supported me throughout these last few years…family, friends, customers…I am truly blessed!  I love making cakes and seeing the reactions to them!  They are my little babies and I love each and every one!  It has been a pleasure working with each and every one of you to create your perfect cake for your occasions!  I love starting with a wedding cake, making baby shower cakes and then eventually your children’s birthday cakes…it’s fun to be a part of your lives in that way!

Bad Blogger (Sorry!)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Please forgive me…I’ve been a BAD blogger, I know.  I’m sorry!  Allow me to explain!

First, I am a wife and mother to 2 VERY active little boys!  Then I bake and decorate cakes.  During the school year, I work as the school’s Kitchen Manager, cooking lunch for around 150 every day.  It’s an interesting job, very stressful and tiring.  I also serve on our church’s Pastoral Council and Youth Ministry Council, design and layout the school’s auction fundraiser program, co-lead Vacation Bible School, and I could probably go on, but I won’t bore you with all I do!  But you get the drift…I can’t say no and as a result, I’m a busy lady and blogging just got pushed into the VERY low-priority list (I’m sure there’s a lot of you out there that can relate)!  I promise to try harder!

I have been updating all of the galleries with new pictures of the cakes that I’ve been doing.  And if you want more up-to-the-minute updates (or as close as possible, anyway), you can follow me on Facebook…I promise, I update faster there!

There are big changes in store for Cake is Life in the future, including a newly redesigned website (there…I put it out there!  Now my husband HAS to do it!) 🙂

I assure you, I have been making cakes, I still LOVE to make them and will continue to take orders for them!  Email me at to place your order or use the Contact Form here on the blog.

Thank you so much for your continued loyalty!  It is such a pleasure working with great people such as yourselves!  I’m honored to be part of your special events and I love it that you let me help you to create your perfect custom cake centerpieces!

2010 in Review

The following email was in my inbox this morning from WordPress, who, for at least the next few months, has hosted my blog since its inception.  I think it’s funny and I think that someone has too much time on their hands!  Just thought I’d pass it along!  Happy New Year and thank you for making 2010 a successful year!  Enjoy!

Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’

This cake was requested by a bride as a surprise for her groom. It was fun to try and sculpt a cake to look like a tire!   The bride was so sweet that she took time out after her rehearsal was over to call me and thank me for the cake.  Thank you, Jennifer, for letting me be a part of your special occasion!

This cake was absolutely fantastic! It tasted great and exceeded my expectations! Thanks so much! ~ Jennifer

Santa’s coming early!

Well, sort of!  I posted in April about my BeaterBlade+ for my Kitchenaid mixer.  I LOVE my BeaterBlade+…I use it all the time and it is a super-duper time-saver!  Well, this morning, I was going to make a batch of Christmas cookies with the boys.  I got out the butter and eggs to let them come to room temperature.  I (and the boys) got impatient and we decided not to wait.  I had the oldest cut up the butter with a butterknife and put it in the bowl.  I attached the BeaterBlade+ and sent it whirling.  Not 2 seconds later, the thing snapped off! 😦  I cried (not really, but I really wanted to).  But the boys kept asking if I was ok and what was the matter.  I was truly sad though!  We proceeded the “old-fashioned” way, stopping every few minutes to scrape down the bowl and got those cookies made.

I emailed customer service and told them what had happened.  There is a 1-year warranty on it and since I only bought it in April, I was well within the time limit!  Thinking that because it was the Holidays, I would not receive any response until at least next week, I was surprised when I received a phone call from “Pennsylvania Caller”.  Expecting it to be a telemarketer, I answered the phone with the annoyed “I-don’t-have-time-for-this” voice.  She said the company name, NewMetro Design, “is this Emily?”…of course I didn’t recognize the company name, so I continued in the annoyed voice…until she said that they wanted to send me the new heavy-duty version of the same BeaterBlade+…the one for “serious bakers”!  She asked if 3-day UPS shipping would be fine.  OF COURSE IT IS…YOU’RE SENDING ME SOMETHING FOR FREE and keeping me from having to go to the mall during the busiest time of the year to buy a new one!  Then she said, “well, I could overnight it if you wanted me to.”  Um, no 3-day is just fine thankyouverymuch!  I then thanked her about 1200 times and wished her a Merry Christmas.

I should have said yes to the overnight, because I’m so excited! 🙂

So, a BIG GIGANTIC thank you, lady-that-I-can’t-remember-your-name-‘cuz-I-thought-you-were-a-telemarketer-and-was-too-excited, and to NewMetro Design, LLC. for sending me a new and improved BeaterBlade+ so that I wouldn’t have to add it to my “Santa please RUSH this” list! 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you to all my loyal followers and occasional visitors to the blog!  I appreciate your comments and am thankful for your visits!  In less than a year, you have helped my blog reach 50,000 page views (only 135 more needed as of posting this)!  Thank you to all of my customers who have ordered cakes too!  You are helping to put my son through Catholic Grade School and for that, I am eternally grateful!  Thank you to everyone who has given me feedback…you have helped make Cake is Life a better business with better cakes!
