Bad Blogger (Sorry!)

Please forgive me…I’ve been a BAD blogger, I know.  I’m sorry!  Allow me to explain!

First, I am a wife and mother to 2 VERY active little boys!  Then I bake and decorate cakes.  During the school year, I work as the school’s Kitchen Manager, cooking lunch for around 150 every day.  It’s an interesting job, very stressful and tiring.  I also serve on our church’s Pastoral Council and Youth Ministry Council, design and layout the school’s auction fundraiser program, co-lead Vacation Bible School, and I could probably go on, but I won’t bore you with all I do!  But you get the drift…I can’t say no and as a result, I’m a busy lady and blogging just got pushed into the VERY low-priority list (I’m sure there’s a lot of you out there that can relate)!  I promise to try harder!

I have been updating all of the galleries with new pictures of the cakes that I’ve been doing.  And if you want more up-to-the-minute updates (or as close as possible, anyway), you can follow me on Facebook…I promise, I update faster there!

There are big changes in store for Cake is Life in the future, including a newly redesigned website (there…I put it out there!  Now my husband HAS to do it!) 🙂

I assure you, I have been making cakes, I still LOVE to make them and will continue to take orders for them!  Email me at CakeIsLife@gmail.com to place your order or use the Contact Form here on the blog.

Thank you so much for your continued loyalty!  It is such a pleasure working with great people such as yourselves!  I’m honored to be part of your special events and I love it that you let me help you to create your perfect custom cake centerpieces!

September’s Birthday Cakes

FINALLY, a blog post…with content and pictures!! Don’t fall off your chairs, folks…I know it’s been a while! I’ve decided that instead of doing separate posts for each cake, that I would group them into categories! I’ll start off with the birthday cakes from the month of September (and a few from the end of August too!).

***Click on each of the pictures for a description of the cakes!***

Flowers & Butterflies

Butterflies & Flowers 1st Birthday Cake

Butterflies & Flowers 1st Birthday Cake

I LOVE girly cakes!  This one was based off the plates for the party (Hugs N Stitches).  I love the colors!  This is the first time I’ve done a stacked buttercream cake without borders and I LOVE the way it came out…very clean!

Graduation Cakes and Some Strays

So this has been a SUPER busy week.  These are only 2 of 4 cakes this week (and a bonus one I haven’t had a chance to upload yet until now).  I’ll upload the rest later this weekend!

Preschool Graduation Cake

Preschool Graduation Cake

The first one is one that I was asked to make for my son’s preschool graduation.  I had a lot of fun making it, although I’m going to have to try to figure out what is wrong with the black ink on my edible image printer, because all of the writing ended up having to be hand-painted on…and I don’t write straight, much less paint words straight!  I’m happy with how it turned out and everyone seemed to be enjoying it!  Congrats, Ben…you’re going to LOVE kindergarten!

Purple Polka Dotted Grad Cake

Purple Polka Dotted Grad Cake

This cake was for a local grad.  The school colors were purple and white…yes, that’s purple…for some reason, that color doesn’t photograph well…perhaps it’s the cloudy day!  Congratulations, Jordan!

Wizard of Oz Cake v.2

Wizard of Oz Cake v.2

Normally, when someone asks me to do a cake from my gallery, I like to change it up a little (or reinvent the wheel).  I LOVE the design of this cake, so I really didn’t want to do anything major to change it.  I did do a few minor things, but mainly it’s the same!  Happiest of Fifth Birthdays to you Jewel!

Pink is Pretty

I just love the quilted look of this cake, and the pink ribbon roses, and the little pearls, and the fluffiness of the vanilla buttercream on the cupcakes…okay, I loved it all!

Emily we loved the cake and cupcakes. Carrot was the favorite! Almost too pretty to eat! ~ Erica

I also loved delivering this cake!  The little one that was the reason for the cake had the same kind of hair that my youngest son had when he was an infant (I miss that hair!)…I’ll leave you with a bonus picture of my son when he was only a few weeks old!

Love that fluff!

A Baptism, Some Birthdays & an Anniversary

The first cake was for my husband’s cousin’s daughter’s baptism (whew!).  It was a fun cake and I enjoyed testing out some new ways to do things!

The second two cakes were ordered by my Dad for an October birthday party at his work.  I really enjoyed going back to the Wilton-flower roots, as this is my 1-year anniversary month for when I first started taking classes.  It was then that I realized how much I truly enjoyed decorating and creating cakes!  So, Thanks Dad!
